Most muscles strains and rotator cuff tendinitis pain can be treated by resting and applying ice. It is important to keep ice compressed to the area with an ice pack for about twenty minutes. Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen can also help alleviate pain and inflammation. Cortisone may be necessary for more severe injuries like shoulder separations and dislocations. Slings are often used for shoulder separations and dislocations to keep the arm immobilized. Surgery may be required in some cases.
